Our Counseling Program
Classroom Counseling Lessons - The Clarkdale Counseling department teaches classroom lessons which are developmentally appropriate and follow the American School Counselor Association Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success.
School Counselors encourage the following mindsets for all students:
1. Belief in development of whole self, including a healthy balance of mental, social/emotional and physical well-being
2. Self- confidence in ability to succeed
3. Sense of belonging in the school environment
4. Understanding that postsecondary education and life-long learning are necessary for long-term career success
5. Belief in using abilities to their fullest to achieve high-quality results and outcomes
6. Positive attitude toward work and learningSchool counselors also assist students in demonstrating learning strategies, self-management skills and social skills through class lessons and activities.
Individual Student Planning & Counseling - The Clarkdale counselors help students establish personal goals and develop future plans. We also assist students in transition from school to school. Personal, social and academic individual counseling for students is available during the school day. Please note that individual school counseling is not therapeutic in nature, as it is beyond the role of the school counselor to conduct in-depth, on-going individual sessions. There are community counseling services available upon request and the counselors can assist in getting parents this information if they desire more in-depth, on-going individual services. Sessions are kept confidential except when students disclose that they are being hurt, are hurting someone else, or want to hurt themselves.
Group Counseling- Students may attend counseling with groups of students who have common interests or concerns. Counselors may receive referrals from parents, teachers, and administrators. Groups are formed as needed and may include, but are not limited to the following: Peer Relations, Changing Families, Anger Management, Self- Esteem & Study skills.
Parent Consultation - Counselors are available by appointment to assist parents with concerns regarding their students. Please refer to the contact information section for details on how to contact the counselors.
Responsive Services- The Counseling program consists of activities to meet all student's immediate needs and concerns. This may include counseling, consultation, referral, peer facilitation or information. This is available to all students. Students may self refer. Parents, teachers and others may also refer.
